For supplemental writing on subtitles in silent film, referenced on p. 178 of The Silent Film Universe, go to this page.

Watch A Day’s Messing (2011), a silent comedy short starring and directed by Jeff Seal. Scroll down for some additional info.

Jeff Seal is a filmmaker and physical comedian, and is one of many clowns and physical comedians I met and got to know and work/play with during the 2010s. We made a few very short (3 mins long) silent films together during using an app called Silent Film Director (which then changed its name to Vintagio, and is no longer available), employing the speed-up and performance adjustments of silent film undercranking for these films. When Jeff made A Day’s Messing – shot on B&W super 8mm film – he asked me to help with the movement adjustment in some of the sequences. I’m also in the film, briefly.
